Emergence Protocol
Synopsis
Powers don't scale to the threat. They have costs. They have geographies. They have physics.
Marcus Hale is a community-college math teacher in the Bronx with an ability he treats like a research problem: every Tuesday he runs the same testing protocol in the same coffee shop, fills out the same notebook, and goes home. The protocol is what keeps him sane. The notebook is what keeps him careful. Then, walking home one October evening, the field around him goes quiet for the second time this month. Two blocks. Maybe two minutes. He calls it dampening, because somebody has to call it something.
Across the city and across the world, a folklore researcher out of Sofia catalogs incidents nobody else thinks are connected. A nurse in Queens walks off shift after using a patient's own ability against him. A documentation activist in London tracks a camera that has been turning eleven degrees too far left for four days. A signal nobody can place broadcasts on an unallocated frequency for less than a second, at intervals nobody can predict.
Marcus does not know any of these people yet. He will.
Emergence Protocol is Book One of The Blind Spot Trilogy — a cost-first superhero novel for readers of Worm, Hench, Vicious, and Recursion. Ensemble POV. Slow-burn. Full draft complete; serial is running Tuesdays and Fridays at 7 PM Eastern.
