Marcus Hale is a community-college math teacher in the Bronx with an ability he treats like a research problem: every Tuesday he runs the same testing protocol in the same coffee shop, fills out the same notebook, and goes home. A signal nobody can place broadcasts on an unallocated frequency for less than a second, at intervals nobody can predict.
