At twelve, Chen Yu watched thousands of dharma bells ignite on a single bare tree. One of them rang for him.

The tree is called the Lantern-Passing Tree. Every bell on it belonged to a transcendence master—someone who guided the dead to peace. When a master dies, their bell returns to the tree, waiting for the next hand to hold it.

And some forget why they started transcending in the first place.

Chen Yu's mother left him nothing but a bronze bell and a missing name. To find her, he must enter the Nine Provinces Dharma Realm—a world layered beneath our own, where the dead don't disappear, and memory itself is a currency.

Deep in the mountains, a river of cold-gold light flows toward no one knows where. Beneath it, copper veins pulse like arteries, forging the dead's memories into bells that wait for new hands.

Master Shen has kept a kerosene lamp burning for fifty years. On it, four words are carved:

"I'm waiting for you."

He doesn't remember who.
