Mercy has roots.

Khern is a young tunnel worker from Rooknest, a cramped settlement deep in the World Below, where a person’s worth is measured by what they can carry, fix, or endure.

When something merciful comes to his home, it brings warmth, food, and relief from pain.

Then the walls begin to change.

Forced into the dark beyond the only shelter he has ever known, Khern must survive a living underworld of strange settlements, hungry roads, evolving beasts, forgotten dead, and powers that reshape flesh as much as fate.

But Khern is changing too.

The ground remembers his footsteps. The dead do not feel as distant as they should. And somewhere behind him, something warm is still following the trail.
