Synopsis
Gracie is an "Altrant," a bio-engineered human created in an amniotic tank for the Earth Navy. Outfitted
with illegal, highly advanced cybernetic wetware by her mentor, Admiral Charles Altherton, Gracie
possesses unparalleled hacking and intelligence abilities. When Altherton's political enemies—
specifically Andrey Listunov, the cruel head of the Altrant Control and Compliance Bureau ACCB)—
force the Admiral into house arrest, Gracie is stripped of her protection. She is transferred to the
command of the arrogant and abusive Captain David Tarrant.
Tarrant recklessly deploys his forces into a chaotic civil war on the planet Corrion. During a disastrous
drop, Gracieʼs unit is decimated. Critically wounded by an explosive, Gracie is left for dead as Tarrant
orders a retreat. She is recovered by Hans GrimRaker, a brutal scavenger and slave trader. Recognizing
her high-value wetware, Hans subjects Gracie to agonizing neural interrogations, deeply traumatizing
her but failing to breach her biological firewalls. In the same prison, she briefly crosses paths with Erika,
a fierce, red-haired Altrant mercenary from Mars.
Meanwhile, Markus Inman—a former cartel boss who now runs an underground network to free Altrants
—learns of Gracieʼs survival. He contacts his closest friend, Kerry Vorcek, captain of the massive
Perseus-class freighter Blue Six. Kerry intercepts Hans on the trading hub of Saint Ann and, acting as a
proxy, purchases Gracieʼs contract only to immediately void it, rendering her a free citizen. Kerry brings
a severely traumatized Gracie aboard Blue Six. Shortly after, Markus also orchestrates Erika's freedom,
and she joins the crew.
Life aboard Blue Six is a challenging adjustment. Gracie suffers from severe PTSD and violent waking
nightmares, at one point instinctively attacking and injuring Kerry. Despite this, Kerry remains incredibly
patient and unconditionally supportive. He introduces her to Bob, the ship's highly advanced and
sarcastic AI, who becomes an unlikely confidant. Gracie also bonds with Erika, who helps her channel
her trauma through physical training. As Gracie learns to navigate civilian life, she discovers Kerry's own
dark past—his back is covered in the scars of a Red Runner pirate, marking a history of violence he is
desperate to escape. Bonded by their shared trauma, Gracie and Kerry fall deeply in love, and Kerry
officially secures her citizenship on his home world of EnMassara.
However, their peace is threatened. On Earth, Andrey Listunov discovers that Gracie carries the genetic
material of Admiral Altherton's deceased daughter, making her an abomination in his eyes. He mobilizes
the entire ACCB, placing massive bounties across the galaxy to hunt her down. As Blue Six navigates
complex political space—including traversing the Amethyst nebula controlled by the dangerous Black
Reapers—the crew realizes the net is tightening.
When a catastrophic gravity-field malfunction nearly destroys Blue Six and leaves Kerry critically
injured, Gracie uses her wetware to save the ship and nurse Kerry back to health, solidifying their bond.
The narrative concludes with Gracie fully embracing her humanity, her love for Kerry, and her found
family. No longer a disposable weapon, she stands ready to fight alongside Kerry, Erika, and Bob to
protect their sanctuary from the impending war with the ACCB.
