Lola Montero is an Examiner-in-training, one of the elite few tasked with studying the darkest parts of human nature—trauma, biology, pathology, motive—and determining a person’s capacity for rehabilitation. She was raised to believe The System sees everything.

But systems do not bleed.

People do.

When Lola’s closest friend, Jazlyn, is sentenced to life imprisonment despite doing everything right, cracks begin to form in everything Lola has ever believed. As she begins working inside Redemption, the institution where criminals are judged and reformed, she starts seeing what The System refuses to acknowledge: poverty mistaken for criminality, survival treated as moral failure, and compassion labeled as weakness.

The deeper Lola examines others, the more she begins to question herself.
