Synopsis

Capital Priest Dayned Rayy has lived her entire life waiting to see the face of God. Every Capital Priest does so before they're officially promoted---just as her mentor did, and his mentor before him.

But when her predecessor suddenly dies, decades before he was expected to, the comparatively young Dayned is forced to face their deity years before she ever thought she would. Still, she accepts the honor, feigning courage when the entire city of Tredlidad is watching her every move. God is here for her, even while everyone else doubts the young Priest. With her Lord high above, she has no reason to doubt herself.

Until the moment comes where she must see His face, for when Dayned looks through the Window expecting to meet God himself, she instead speaks with the Great Pretender, ruler of Hell and God's only rival, who comes bringing terrible news:

"God is dead, Mother Dayned, and you will have to settle for me."
