In a world divided by lands of neverending light and darkness, the Mark stands as a frontier where magics collide for dominance, races clash for survival, and ancient dangers threaten to return.

After the war, Vander Mencia travels to the Mark to seek a new beginning: a chance to make of his name a word to be remembered and of his failures, memories to be forgotten. But when he joins a caravan bound for the edges of the human domains, he is dragged into a journey where the world itself is the enemy.
