Patch Notes for the Last City
Synopsis
When Earth was engulfed by a collapsing system, everyone except Ethan Well took part in a survival course. He enrolled in the Bug Reporter course.
It doesn’t fight, heal or craft.
Then, Ethan demonstrated a glitch in reality; the system released a patch, but this patch left behind a vulnerability that only he could exploit.
To survive, Ethan must turn the glitch into a weapon, transform strangers into citizens, and turn the patch notes into the cornerstone of Earth’s last safe city.
Ethan Well spent years testing that bug-ridden software, whilst those in charge turned a deaf ear to all his warnings—until a fire broke out in the production environment. Subsequently, the sky split open, the system overlaid itself upon Earth, and humanity became the latest batch of subjects for its operations.
Most survivors were assigned perfectly reasonable professions: Blade Apprentice, Flame Monk, Steel Sentinel, Beast Tamer.
Ethan was assigned the role of Bug Reporter.
This profession had no weapon skills, no healing skills, no crafting tree, and no obvious way to complete the tutorial. But Ethan noticed something that no one else had: the system had rules, there were contradictions between those rules, and confirmed bugs had to be fixed.
Every patch update altered everyone’s reality.
Every patch left Ethan with a private bug.
Now, the only thing that could prevent his team from being deleted was someone who knew how to reproduce the crash.
