Before their life as soldiers, Paul and Lily were part of the royal household of the previous monarchy. One day, the kingdom of Signa invades, chasing them into hiding. Eventually, the siblings are found and "reclaimed" as Signian soldiers-in-training. The kingdom's invasion may just have been an operation for the Signians, but the two never forgot the family and childhood they lost without any power to fight back.
