Synopsis
Marcus, like many veterans, was living out his life after the military. Forgotten by the world he gave so much to protect. Then an unfortunate robbery and his own hero complex gets him killed.
He is summoned to the kingdom of Aerion, a land bleeding out at the edges, where a desperate princess and a tired archmage have paid in blood to drag a soul across the Veil to fight a Demon who is, by every prophecy they have, going to end them. But Marcus refuses the Hero Contract not willing to bind his life to the kingdom. Instead striking it out on his own in a strange new land. They wanted a hero. They got a Staff Sergeant.
