The Merchant's Eye
Synopsis
Aldric Wren has nothing left in Valdris but his name — and his name is worthless.
When the patriarch of House Voss arranges a marriage between his daughter and the last son of a bankrupt merchant family, the city's reaction is polite contempt. Sera Voss is the sharpest commercial mind on the Council. Aldric Wren is nobody. The arrangement makes no sense.
Unless Aldric is something the city hasn't learned to recognize yet.
Since a fever nearly killed him at fourteen, Aldric has carried a gift he never asked for: the ability to feel what people hide. Not their thoughts — their truth. The fear beneath the confidence. The grief beneath the anger. The desperate man performing certainty across a negotiating table. In a city where power is built on performance, Aldric sees through every performance to the person underneath.
House Voss is failing. The suppliers are turning. The debts are being called at terms no arm's-length creditor would know to use. Someone is engineering the family's collapse — patiently, precisely, from the outside — and the woman Aldric has just married is the only one fighting to hold it together.
She doesn't want his help. She doesn't trust his methods. She doesn't understand what he is.
She will.
The Merchant's Eye is a cultivation progression fantasy about commercial warfare, the defense of a city worth defending, and two people who discover that genuine partnership is the most dangerous weapon either of them has ever held.
