THE EMPTY THRONE
Synopsis
In a world where God has been harvested, only the Friction remains.
The sky over Acheron has been closed for a century. Humanity has been demoted from a species to a resource. The Watcher Spires pierce the smog, humming with the Great Hum—a frequency designed to grind the human soul into a harvestable data-point of despair.
In the mud-slicked gutters of the Sinks, life is a transaction of agony. Survival means clinging to a fading bond while the Breakers—monstrous hybrids of iron and hollowed flesh—stalk the squares for the next "Live Harvest." There is no mercy in the shadow of the Spires, only the clinical sorting of the meat.
The Empty Throne is a "hard story" intended for mature readers. It explores a world defined by the Friction mechanic—where every action has a visceral, often brutal consequence. Please be advised that this narrative contains:
Graphic Violence & Physical Hardship: Unflinching depictions of combat, injury, and the harsh realities of survival in a broken world.
Psychological Trauma & Grief: Deep exploration of loss, including the permanent deaths of significant figures and the mental toll.
Dark Themes: Exploration of moral ambiguity, the "Third Way" philosophy, and the crushing weight of systemic collapse.
The Lexicon of the Hard Story
1. Friction
The Concept: Friction is the energy of life, emotion, and chaos. It is the "heat" generated by human will, suffering, and desire.
The Mechanic: In this world, too much Friction causes a "Glitch" in reality, while too little leads to stagnation. The Apostles feed on the Friction of agony to power their looms, while the Demi-Gods view human Friction as a waste product that must be managed or deleted.
2. Sequence
The Concept: The biological and metaphysical "code" of a person or an object.
The Mechanic: Everything has a Sequence. When an Apostle "re-weaves" someone, they are overwriting their human Sequence with a monstrous one. To "Delete a Sequence" is to kill someone so thoroughly that their history and essence are erased from the world’s blueprint.
3. The Hard Story
The Concept: The current era of reality.
The Mechanic: It is a narrative of absolute consequence. There are no miracles, no comedic reliefs, and no easy resets. If a character dies, they stay dead. If a choice is made, the world hardens around it. It is a story where survival is a calculation, and mercy is often a bullet.
4. Deletion / Unpicking
The Concept: The act of killing or dismantling.
The Mechanic: Because the world is made of "Threads" and "Sequences," death is often described in textile or industrial terms. To be "unpicked" is to have one's physical form pulled apart. To be "deleted" is a permanent removal from the world's active memory.
5. The Empty Throne
The Concept: The ultimate seat of power at the center of the world's architecture.
The Mechanic: It is the goal of the "Successor." Whoever sits upon it has the power to write the next "Story" and define the laws of Friction and Sequence for the next millennium.
