The Archivist
Synopsis
“The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting.”
—Milan Kundera
1987. In this era of glasnost and perestroika, Cold War tensions are easing. But Miles Langford, former field operative now demoted to CIA archivist due to Agency scapegoating, stumbles on tapes revealing a KGB memory erasure program that may be more than historical. Enlisting the help of pediatric neuroscientist, Leila Anwar, Miles must uncover the truth about the program before the weaponized technology can be used. All this while trying to rebuild a strained relationship with his teenage son who has his own connection to the Soviet plot.
Set against the backdrop of 1980s Washington, D.C., The Archivist incorporates real life espionage cases and historical controversies into its dark tapestry. Though it is an action story at heart, the work does not shy away from exploring psychological and philosophical questions.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is my first writing project and I welcome feedback -- positive and negative are both OK. I will post subsequent chapters regularly if there is interest.
