Aegis [High Fantasy Epic]

Ever since he was a child, war has been all Ascalon has ever known. The people look up to him for guidance as their young king, but with each growing year he grows more and more uncertain of his competency. Does he truly deserve the crown? What can he do to help his nation? Ascalon wishes to do more, to take to the battlefield personally. In the end, all he can do is wait while his subjects fight, and die, in distant lands. The king must remain in his gilded cage.

However, when a shooting star flashes across the sky, and an ancient prophecy heralds the coming of humanity's savior, Ascalon must decide the fate of his kingdom. Will he uphold this stagnant impasse as his people desire, or carve into history an epic of his own?

The opposing empire lusts for conquest, an ancient evil revives once more, and the sky darkens in anticipation of a coming bloodbath. But amidst it all, Ascalon has only one dream.
